The Co-Mission Initiative is an exciting new church-planting network that God is growing in London.

  • Our name is Co-Mission after our Lord Jesus' "Great Commission" to "make disciples of all nations".
  • Our name is CO-mission to emphasise that we are evangelical churches co-operating in gospel ministry.
  • Our name is co-MISSION to emphasise that our priority is initiating congregations and ministries for mission that will reach unbelievers from many cultures with God's Word of spectacular grace.

a passion

We share a deep desire to worship our Heavenly Father by making disciples for His Son in the power of his Holy Spirit. This uniting passion nourishes our “organic church-planting mini-movement”. We say organic because, since its official launch in 2005, Co-Mission has grown and multiplied as congregations and ministries have been sent out, rather than by bringing existing churches in. This creates the special unity and warmth of shared origins. We say “mini-movement” because we’ve only just started and feel small. We say “mini-movement” because we’re united not by our constantly evolving structures but by our gospel convictions...

for planting

We’re trying to launch lots of different gospelproclaiming churches for diverse communities, that love God, love God’s people and love God’s world. We are committed to doing this both within and outside traditional denominational structures. Our rather ambitious “360 Vision” is our attempt, by God’s grace alone, to plant 360 congregations in London over 25 years. This could happen if we double our numbers of congregations every 5 years. Having planted ten congregations by 2010, we’re on track to pass twenty by 2015. We’re currently developing new strategies to plant a further 20 churches between 2015 and 2020. We have no idea how we could double again! This long-term goal keeps us humble because we have so far to go. It also keeps us boldly pushing forward in total dependence upon our church-building Lord. It may well prove a ridiculous dream. But we don’t want to “die wondering” what we might have done for Jesus if only we’d tried...

for london

We’re devoted to reaching London, in all its marvellous cultural diversity and challenging urban problems, with gospel hope and transformation. We face wonderful opportunities to reach all nations here in London because the nations have come here for education, business and tourism. We’re developing regional “Clusters” of congregations. This means that resource-rich middle-class congregations can support a variety of local resource-poor ministries to housing estates and ethnic minority communities. There are currently six “Clusters” centred in Mayfair, Fulham, Balham, Wimbledon, Kingston and the scattered housing estates churches.

for christ

We worship Christ as our crucified Saviour, risen Lord and returning judge. He is the reason, pattern and goal of all we do. That’s why we call our regular church-planting consultations and annual conference, “PLANTING FOR CHRIST: Biblical. Missional.Practical.” We rejoice that we are completely saved by his righteous ministry and not ours. So we welcome the opportunity to sacrificially serve him now so that when we stand before our beautiful scarred Saviour on the day of judgement, we may hear his warm welcome into the new creation where we will glorify him forever.
